Check out this month Referee Magazine. If you look real hard you’ll see one of our very own board regulars has been published. Congratulations Mike. YOU DA KIND! :D

REPLY: I read Mike's little contribution also. Sounds like a typical umpire!!

What's it about? I don't get the magazine.

REPLY: Under the <i>"Your Call"</i> feature, <b>REFEREE</b> asked "What's the best job in officiating and why?" Mike answered, <i>"Football umpire because you have to be a combination of good psychologist, communicator, and coordinator...and it's the closest thing to running with the bulls at Pamplona."</i>

Thanks guys!

I did not receive my issue yet... I better send in my dues!

When I was in high school my best friend Myles and I were big Ernest Hemingway fans. We must of read "The Sun Also Rises" at least a dozen times. It was our dream to go to Spain and run with the bulls, drink wine, and wear berets. Perhaps someday...

Uncle Ernie Hemingway was a big inspiration to me in my formative years. I always remembered his definition of courage as "grace under pressure". This really applies to football officiating.

Its just an honor and a pleasure to be associated with a great game and most importantly a great group of guys such as yourselves.

Would Mike travel east or west to get to Spain from "way over there"?

Mike Simonds Mon Mar 01, 2004 03:56pm

Let's all sing along!

Good question!

Well I've never been to Spain.

But I kind of like the music...
