Well if Ed was an alternate can he be there again? There is a rule where you can't be eligible for SB back to back, but not sure if this counts for alternate.

I also enjoy the explanations. I like to hear what he saw and why it was ruled that way.

Does an alternate go to the game with gear just incase something happens?

Snake~eyes Mon Dec 29, 2003 02:43pm

I would assume so.

One other thing that comes to mind, didn't see him this week, but last week Tom White would punch his fist in his other hand and then signal first down. He's the only one I've seen do this, anything behind that?

I believe he does this to create his own style. Kind of like Red Cashion saying, "FIRST DOWN".

As far as I know, every NFL white hat says "First Down."

But Red had a special "twang" that is impossible to put into print. It was unique!

Yeap, it was the way he said it. Very interesting. :)

Do we find out whose on the Super Bowl before it starts, or do we have to wait for the start of the game to find out who\'s working it?

BktBallRef Tue Dec 30, 2003 01:17am

Usually, someone here knows before game day.

Yes, but it\'s their individual styles that are being commented on.

Normally, the SB officials also work a WC game, so you may see the SB crew out there this weekend. I don\'t think they announce the SB officials until the week of the game.

REPLY: Yes...but not the way that Cashion said it!

I think Terry McAuley is the best on the microphone, but it\'s only his third year as a referee, so I doubt we\'ll see him very deep into the playoffs, if at all.
