I was watching the Colts/Bills game today when, during a field goal attempt by the Bills, the holder dropped the ball as the kicker approached. My question is this: Does the kicker (or anyone else on the offense) have any of the following options:

- Pick up the ball and drop-kick it through the uprights for 3 points

- Pick up the ball and THROW it through the uprights for 3 points

I know they can run it (right?), but I've never heard of either of the above two conditions. I doubt the latter of the two is allowed, but ya never know....

Thanks!

Don't know about NFL rules ...

For FED:

The kicker could pick up the ball and drop kick it through the goal posts for three points.

The kicker could pick up the ball and throw a forward pass. If it went through the goal posts, however, it would be incomplete (couldn't possibly be caught inbounds), and may even be ruled an illegal forward pass (intentionally incompleted). No three points.

What the Bills' kicker did (intentionally kicking a loose ball on the ground) would be an illegal kick under FED rules. Considered a fumble.
