This was probably covered already on this forum somewhere, but since I wasn't on the forum last year, what did you all think of Warren Sapp's "block" on that Green Bay Packer. Yeah, technically it was a legal block, but to me he seemed far enough out of the play as to not make an impact. If you had officiated that game, what would you have called?

No takers eh? Has this already been beat in the ground?

Well, if no one wants to respond to that, then I have a second related question. Has anyone ever been or known of an official that has been sued, demoted etc for not calling a cheap shot whether they saw it or not?

The block from last year, right?
I think most of us thought Sapp's block was cheap. I think many of us said we would flag this at a high school game.

I've not known any official who was sued or "demoted" for missing a cheap shot.

Simbio,

This was covered earlier and as you would expect, there were different opinions on the play. How does that saying go, "ask 10 officials, get 10 different answers".

The discussion debated whether the block was legal vs. was the act a personal foul. Most felt that the block was legal, but the act was wrong due to its proximity to the ball and affect on the play.

Most agreed outside of the NFL, they would throw a flag. Then the debate was whether or not to rule this as a flagrant foul.

That's what I recall on the topic.

Sorry dude, but truthfully, you are a year late. We beat it to death back then.

Yeah, I figured that was the case.....
