NFL Officials Uniform Question.

The NFL went to the long black pants with the white stripes down the side first followed by the NCAA and then the NFHS. But I saw a tape on YouTube of a NFL game (played within the last ten years) before the NFL went to the black pants and the officials were wearing the traditional white knickers but their knickers had black stripes down the side of them. I do not remember ever seeing a game with knickers with a black stripe down the side of them.

Can anyone give me some background information? Thanks.

They were a transition. The black pants were introduced in 2006 but were considered "foul weather" gear originally. They still wore the solid knickers also. The NFL officials became enamored with the black pants and so some referees started declaring "foul weather" when there really wasn't any as I recall because they liked the black pants better.

The black stripe on the knickers was added in 2008-2011. In 2012 they wore only black pants.

Have to agree that they liked the "foul weather" black pants. I remember one game they used the black pants and the game was in a dome...

But I am asking about white knicker with a black stripe down the side. That is what the officials were wearing in the YouTube video I saw.
