Targeting ejection
Player #1 is at Middle Linebacker
His is called for targeting on this tackle. Do you think they should have ejected him? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hb_cXNGtuz0 |
No.

Doesn't look flagrant, which is the prerequisite for an ejection. Targeting in NFHS is really more of a description of a type of personal foul.

Under NCAA rules this would APPEAR to possibly be targeting (QB becomes defenseless when in grasp of other 2 players) and contact may be to head or neck area and is forcible. Again, not 3D and not the greatest angle, so can't make a definitive ruling here. NCAA now allows a non-flagrant targeting foul to be a 15 yard penalty with no ejection as long as its the first targeting foul on the offender. I would definitely go that route but not rule out the ejection in my game.
NFHS may vary, of course. I don't think you can clearly judge flagrant or not through the video unfortunately. |
In a FED game, I’d strongly consider a DBPF. I don’t see any reason to eject.

Texas allows this. |

That is not the case in NCAA games or rules. Peace |

I can't say if in HS it would or would not be an ejection, because I am not familiar with the wording of the HS rule. What I will say is that based on where the flag comes in from, I would have an argument from the DC that the official did not have a view to actually see the contact to the head or neck or if the contact was with the crown of the helmet. I do think it is absolutely a personal foul because his momentum was stopped and it was well after that happened. |
