Okay I do youth football, I'm not a WH and I have to admit that some of the WHs I work with aren't very knowledgeable. I go to coach for pregame talk, says he has a trick play. They snap it then quarterback gives it right back to the center. PLEASE please please tell me that this is illegal. WH said it was legal as long as there is an exchange. He allowed for this play to happen. I'm saying that any interior linemen has to be 1yd behind LOS and face goaline. What's the call?

This play is illegal. We covered this in another thread and it may have been on another site as I can't find it right now.
This is covered by rule 7-3 SECTION 3 HANDING THE BALL ART. 1 . . . Any player may hand the ball backward at any time. ART. 2 . . . No player may hand the ball forward except during a scrimmage down before a change of possession, provided both players are in or behind the neutral zone and it is to: a. A lineman who has clearly faced his goal line by moving both feet in a half-turn and is at least 1 yard behind his line when he receives the ball. b. To a back or a teammate who, at the snap, was on an end of his line and was not the snapper nor adjacent to the snapper. |
