Pass along sideline

If a receiver goes up to catch a ball along the sideline and defender carries the receiver out of bounds. The receiver would of come down in bounds if he wasn’t contacted. Is this a good catch?

On a true carry (which is pretty rare), the pass is complete because the receiver’s forward progress is stopped. Otherwise, the receiver must get at least one foot inbounds in order to complete the catch.

I think the confusion comes from the word "carry" (relocate), understanding it to mean carry- like a sack of potatoes (or diamonds) as opposed to "knock" (push, bump, redirect).
