What did you guys think of the USC call on the FG Attempt that was made in OT?

I did not see the game but didn't the overtime last almost 12 of the 15 minutes? If so, I suspect there were MANY calls made, by refs, coaches, players and people in the stands. Which 1 are you asking about?

Are you talking about the unsportsmanlike conduct call on Rice?

Yes. Should have clarified that.

The refs made the correct call on a rule that was put in AT THE REQUEST of the NFL Player's Assn many years ago.

Yes. Should have clarified that.

NFL rules address this and it was clearly against the rules. It wasn't something ambiguous like the NFL tuck rule from several years ago. It is written in plain english.

I didn't see the play, but I'm guessing it was a good call.

buc fan

yea it was the correct call. Put in many yeasr ago by Players assoc. for saftey reasons. Jerry Merkbrite (sp?) was on the radio yesterday talking about it. He said that each year when the NFL does its rules meetings wiht players, they go over this one. Good call, not technical like the afore mentioned tuck rule. Rice just lacked good judgement or a bad landing.
BUT, colts should have NEVER been there in the first place. Bucs should have slammed door on them back in 4th. Bucs got what they deserved. a loss. good call by officials.

I saw the play in slow motion several times. PERFECT CALL according to the NFL and the officials that help the commentators in the booth. For once, an official was given credit for making the correct call. The slow motion replay was run at the same time John Madden was reading the rule. It was like it was all scripted. At first, it seemed weird because the USC Leaping was called and nobody knew what that meant. When they looked up the rule and read it during the replay, it was a PERFECT CALL.

I didn't see the game, nor am I familiar with the rule. What happened in the game and what is the rule?

I just think they need to change the name of the foul. Makes it sound like you can't run and jump to block a kick.

Here's an article that tells exactly what happen, why it was called and the rule definition: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1632537
