NFL Replay Policy
Did the NFL ever announce the move away from incontrovertible evidence to overturn, or is it just happening with Al Riveron's new role in the replay center?
There's another play I have in mind, but no video available at the moment. 2nd and Goal at TEN 8 (0:00 - 3rd) (Shotgun) L.Bell left guard for 8 yards, TOUCHDOWN. The Replay Official reviewed the runner broke the plane ruling, and the play was REVERSED. (Shotgun) L.Bell left guard to TEN 1 for 7 yards (K.Byard, L.Ryan) Steelers vs. Titans Last edited by FormerUmp; Thu Nov 16, 2017 at 11:13pm. |

I'm really curious as to what his mindset is going into these. This one was incorrect for the same reason the Cunningham play from the Bears game this past Sunday was. The ball was being contacted by an out of bounds player prior to it hitting the pylon. It's almost as if he's going into it looking for controversy. =\ |

Quote:
1) Gurley loses possession (and contact with the ball) at about the 1 yard line. 2) Gurley steps out of bounds (while not in contact with the ball). 3) Ball hits plyon. 4) Gurley touches the ball after it hits the pylon, and secures possession while OOB. Of course, neither of these two things matter because by definition the ball is dead once it strikes the pylon. |

On the Cunningham play and the Gurley play, the ball is clearly contacted by each player whIle each player is contacting the sideline. The Bell play is certainly not conclusive to overturn. |

I'm sorry you mistake yourself for a moderator (who has already warned you.)

You, however, have personally attacked me for no reason. I think any logical person would see who the "bad guy" is here. |

Check the angle shown at 2:02. There is clearly daylight between his hand and the ball just before his foot touches OOB.

Video needs more frames to be conclusive. Start-stopping it at .25x speed it skips from in his hand with his foot almost on the ground to full foot on the ground and clear daylight.

Has IR eliminated doubt and argument, or just changed it? Thankfully, at (most) interscholastic levels absolute perfection although always hoped for, and often demanded, is not required or (truly) expected. Somehow, the contest manages to continue, the teams adapt and the challenge (and the beat) goes on. Has IR materially improved anything, or just shifted who's arguing about what? |
