WR goes out of bounds

An offensive wr goes out of bounds on his own without being forced out. He comes back in 5 yards downfield. Am I correct it is Illegal Participation and the protocal is you throw your hat when they leave the leave and the flag occurs when the player comes back into the field of play.

15 yards Illegal Participation previous spot.

Illegal participation under NFHS rules. Enforce under all-but-one.

There's no specific NFHS mechanic to throw a hat. Local mileage may vary.

It is Illegal Participation. It's not previous spot, however. It's all-but-one. It might end up enforced from this previous spot, it may not.

Identifying that you have observed the offensive player leave the field on his own can be helpful in clarifying (and supporting) any subsequent IP flags thrown. However, at the NFHS level, using your bean bag to do so may be a lot more practical than your hat. (especially on a sloppy field).
