Gloves look cool. That's the only reason to wear them.

im a reciver for our hs team here in IL. I really like the gloves, and sometimes if you get the right ones the can offer your hands a little protection against jammed fingers and little stuff like that. But when it comes to wet weather. I prefer my hands. Ill wipe them off every so many plays, and im good to go

Wink More than just cool.

It is a personal choice. It might take some getting used to, but many players use gloves and it works well for them. Not for us to say either way.

Peace

As a coach, I would prefer that they didn't use the gloves. We play up here in North Dakota so these later games in the season can get pretty cold and most will want to wear them. I only have one rule. If you don't wear them everyday in practice, then you can't wear them in the game.

I'm amazed at the choice of footballs some schools make. Instead of a new or fairly new (this season) football, they trot out these slick, well-worn things that are tough to hang onto. I don't blame some of the kids for using gloves. A relatively new ball has a natural tackiness to it - I'm surprised more schools don't use them.

Last season there was a varsity team in the area that got such little money from the school board that they could only afford two new balls that season. It was easy to see that they wanted to use those balls as little as possible to make them last the season.

It all depends on how old he is. If he is young, no gloves would be my vote. He needs to learn how to catch using his hands to his best ability. Gloves are a crutch.
