Talking

This past Monday, AlabamaBlueZebra let me white hat a Jr High game, was my first time at referee. Get a call from the assigner today asking me to white hat 2 more games next week.

Reminds me of when I was a kid, begging dad to let me mow the lawn. Then I had to mow the lawn all the time after that...

=)

AB,
Just review the situations I've posted on the board this year and learn from my mistakes! Are you working the ACA games Monday? On penalties - slow down, give crisp signals, and select a focal point in the pressbox when given your signals. Did I give you back your nickel from last game? If not, get a bigger coin!

The est tip I ever got as a white hat was....SLOW DOWN. Slow down when signaling the ready, when administering penalties, when coming up to triangle the ball inside. Your pace should show confidence and purpose, not hurried, not frantic. You dictate the pace at all times.

Oh, it helps to know all the rules and penalty enforcements as well.

Especially the signals. Get in the open to where the press box can see you and then give a slow signal. Also make sure you are visible to the press box when you wind the clock on the RFP.

And check the clock after you wind. A LOT of timers, especially at the lower levels aren't looking to start the clock when they need to.

Or don't stop it when you do.

Thanks for the tips. I know the signals, and I do pretty good with enforcements. Luckily on Monday night I have a very experienced umpire and wing, so that will help.

I'm going to Hillcrest Monday and Billingsley Thursday, ABZ. I don't know who got the ACA games, but I wish it was me.
