On the kick-off, K kicks it out of bounds not touched at the 37, during the kick we have a clip on the return team at the R-42. both of these fouls would be dead ball fouls, correct?? now I addressed the return team first, on their three choices. then I marked off 15 on the return team for the clipping foul. so we rekicked from the 50.. we could have had any situation, depending on the choice of the return team. They could have taken it at the 37 then mark off 15 to the 22, 1-10 there, or at the 35, mark to the 20, 1-10. or rekick after 5yd penalty and mark off 15 to the 50.. Am I right on this or is there something else. they we're dead ball fouls right?, until touched by R, which didn't happen...Imput gladly app.......!!!!

The clip is during the kick, so this is most certainly a live ball foul. The kick out of bounds is also not a dead ball foul, as for no other reason that in the penalty section of Rule 6-1, it is not listed as a dead ball foul and the dead ball foul signal is not given. This is a double foul, replay the kick (6-1-7b).

Lightbulb These are not dead ball fouls.

The clip happen during the kick, which is a live ball foul. The kicking the ball out of bounds is also a live ball foul. So because you have two fouls by opposing teams, you have a double foul. So you have to re-kick, because you have a double foul.

Peace

Both would be live ball fouls the way you describe the play. The clock obviously would not start until the ball is touched by R, but the ball is "live" as soon as it is kicked (Ref. 4-1-2 and 4-1-5). Double foul and rekick.

What if?

what if the clip happened after the ball had went out of bounds, and the whistle sounded, what then?

First, R has to make its choice: they can take the ball on the 35 (assuming the kick was from the 40), they can have a 5 yard penalty on K and have K rekick, or they can have the ball where it went OOB. 15 yards is then marched off against R from the succeeding spot for the dead ball foul(so they will have the ball at the 20, have the ball 15 yards back from where it went OOB, or K will be kicking from the R 45).
