A snap must be a smooth, quick, and continuous motion. The ball must immediately leave the hand(s)of the snapper and touch a back or the ground before it touches a lineman.
Yes, you can snap the ball to a lineman -- just skip it on the ground. No, it does not have to go between the legs of the snapper.
