I saw this elsewhere and I believe the male cheerleaders were making noises or mimicking cadence to try to draw the visiting team into the NZ and I believe a band member or three were making noise with their instruments after the RFP. In typical mis-reporting fashion, the officials are doing the right thing and are shed in a poor light by someone not versed in the rules. Again.

Agreed, but I have read more than one post on this board saying, not the officials job!

And no referee at that level is going to do something like that unless his supervisor wants him to and will support him for doing it.

Actually you're right, John, it's not the official's job, it was the job of those cheerleaders parents (long ago), and the cheerleading coaches (currently) to teach these geniuses about basic fair play (long ago) and honest sportsmanship (currently).

Apparently those previous efforts having failed, or not being attempted, likely the proper approach would have been to advise Game Management of the problem and interrupt the contest until the problem was eliminated. However, apparently one (or more) game officials exercised good judgment to try a "word to the wise" direct approach, which apparently worked and eliminated the problem without escalation and avoiding all the nonsense choosing the purely "proper" approach would have undoubtedly added to the situation, aside from some ignorant journalist seemingly more interested in generating unnecessary conflict, than simply dispatching bad (and childish) behavior.
