Nevadaref I'm with Mick. How many times have you heard, "He wasn't set!" after calling a player control foul because the defender was moving backward when the offense ran him over? I will also note that I believe quite a few officials don't understand this rule either!
JRutledge Originally posted by ScottParks I'd say rule 4! What about Rule 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10? All from a coaches perspective. 😀 Peace
AK ref SE I would say the "Over The Back" on rebounds as stated in an above post, and the Player Control Foul where the player is still moving but has gained a legal guarding posistion AK ref SE
Mark Padgett This is an easy one. The most misunderstood rule by coaches is the rule that I am always right.

Jay R This one is a little off-topic beacause it was a parent not a coach who made this comment. The story goes that a parent asked the ref after the game why did they not call (3 in the key) more often. The ref tried to answer politely but the mom was adament. She said:"Sometimes, there were 4 or 5 players in the key" Makes you wonder.

APHP Try calling a "charge"--and then go to the other end and shoot a one and one..then TRY to explain to the coach the difference between a charge and a player control foul..For that reason I don't call "charge" any more--a charge is now a "push".
Larks I'm going with 3 seconds for the kids games especially. I love the coach who is over there counting out loud as there is a shot being attempted or on the way already. Legal moving picks are always fun to hear about. And finally...over and back when A1 still has one of three points in the BC and decides to go back! Thats always a crowd pleaser! Larks VIT
AK ref SE JayR- ANd all these years I have been calling three in the key, when there has been only two players in the key....No wonder the coaches were getting mad! AK ref SE

Larks VIT Whenever a coach counts out loud like that, tell him that everytime he counts, it confuses you and you have to start over.
fletch_irwin_m Heard a good one last nite from a fellow official. Was at a game this year and had a fan just SCREAMING "3 Seconds!!" During a time out, the official was standing by where the fan was sitting and said "Hey, do you know that everyone is laughing at you?" Fan "Why is that?" Official "Everyone knows that there is no more "3 Second" rule. Fan "really?' Official "Yep, it went out about two years ago. When was the last time you saw it called? Fan "Now that you mention it, I haven't seen it called in years" Official "There you go then. Just thought I would help you out"
iref21 I would have to agree with Mick on this question! Alot of coaches and players confuse the block/charge situations with time and distance. In my short time officiating I have heard some interesting statements made about block/charge situations. It's pretty simple, a legal guarding position is a legal guarding position.
rainmaker The hardest rule for an off-season coach (who is really a dad, helping out) is any rule that has changed since he was in high school.
DownTownTonyBrown Screens and incidental contact. "That's a moving screen, Ref (no contact)." "Holy cow! He knocked him down and no foul call? (legally set pick, outside field of vision with significant contact but no pushing through)"
DownTownTonyBrown Three seconds is just an easy one for coaches because they can count that far.... and they like to help.
Tim Roden 10. 3 seconds 9. illegal screens 8. carrying 7. multiple foul rule. (ok officials don't understand that either) 6. 10.3.4 5. overtheback 4. backcourt violation 3. incedental contact 2. block/charge legal guarding position and the #1 answer 1. 10.4.1 unsporting behavior including trying to influence an officials decision.
