boss21 after watching a piaa game yesterday can some one tell me what the mercy rule is.. 30pts. 35pts or 40pts.
Mark Padgett Although I don't know where "piaa" games would take place (Patagonia?), if it was under standard HS rules, there is no "mercy" rule, unless your state has adopted one. Many rec leagues do use a mercy rule, however.

Pennsylvania's PIAA adoptions for basketball games at all levels include a mercy rule with a running clock in the second half of games in which one team has a 40-point lead over their opponent. In this case, the clock stops for granted time-outs, free throw attempts (we are to signal the timer to stop the clock once our foul report awarding free throws is completed), and injuries requiring a coach's attention.
