Watching the first 10 minutes or so I thought god this is just an ugly game.

UConn looked horrible, literally throwing the ball out of bounds on several occasions, down 20-5. This is going to be a blowout, just ugly ugly early season basketball on both ends what else can I watch.

Then things get interesting.

First the was a BI.
Then we have a T on Calipari.
Then a personal foul followed by a player T on Memphis.
Block, charge, charge on what seemed like successive trips.
UConn takes the lead going into the locker room.

Entertainment wise, not so bad afterall, still ugly early season basketball though. 😉 Hopefully the second half is entertaining.

That would be Memphis University, not UMASS. Calipari has not been at UMASS in about 10 years.

Oops, my mistake, I must of got caught up in the pregame hype. 😉 I did state Memphis in the OP.

I haven't seen those guys before. Calhoun was certainly under wraps- not so for Calipari-those two do not break bread together. I must be used to Timmy, Jimmy, etc. Nichols must have thought the 2K Championship wasn't that important.......a No 3 playing an unranked.

I got a bit confused by the title. I'm pretty sure UMass and UConn don't play each other any more.

Nichols likely did not make any assignments for this tournament. This was not an NCAA Tournament game so Nichols would not be directly involved in the assigning of these games. Secondly, I do not think those guys you mentioned work this tournament on a regular basis. Usually the officials that work these kinds of tournaments are younger, below the radar NCAA Tournament officials.
