OHBBREF M&M has it right just as you did, intentionally using the foot or leg is the key. there are too many calls made where a pass is thrown at a foot already on the floor that are being called kicked balls

Adam And plays where the dribbler loses control while moving and the ball strikes his foot (rather than the other way around). Play on.

Just another one of those rules myths.
