Search function disabled?

polarbear

Just curious if anyone knows why the search function is disabled. I clicked the search icon at the top, and it says that "The search function has been disabled by the administrator." Anyone know why?

LDUB

I don't know why, but I wish it was available. Could save me a few minutes every now and then.

I believe the search function is being addressed.
The popularity of this forum may have exceeded the software capabilities. 🙂

Just use Google and specify this site. Works the same way.

Do you have the toolbar installed?

I just discovered that you can also search at Yahoo. Select the advanced option before searching and you can just search this forum. Worked very well when I used it.

I use the google advanced search and it works fine for seraching within the bb official forum.

Use the first four lines to define the text to search for, then specify http://www.officialforum.com in the domain area as the only place to search.

I agree that google is not the best for searching a particular site when compare to the search function on this site. Google is only as up-to-date as the last time it traversed all the pages of the site...which may not be very often.

I'm pretty good at getting google to give the data I want but somethimes, I can't get it to find posts on this site that I know are there.

Just use Google.

Tony, it really doesn't work as well. There are posts I know are back there, that just don't show up on Google. It gets very frustrating!

Got a better idea?

Look newbie, it's not broken, it's disabled. If they wanted it to work, it would work. Does it work? NO, IT DOESN'T!

Build a bridge and get over it.

Because then there would be threads asking why the site is so slow.

If it's disabled, have you considered that they don't want it enabled?

First of all, you don't need the Google Toolbar to do a site search (although it may have a function that makes it easier, I don't know).

For those who can't make it work, go to Google, click on Advanced search, type your query, then a little lower, under Domain, type "www.officialforum.com". Click Search. It should give you something like this:
http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&as_qdr=all&q=search+function+disabled+site%3Awww.officialforum.com&meta=

By the way, I tried both Google and Yahoo. Google returns much more results (and relevant ones).

P.S.:

(although it may have a function that makes it easier, I don't know)

Should I have written "has"? 🙂
