Where's my humor plug-in? 🙁 Portland's Professor Paradox

rockyroad Originally posted by BBallCoach Mark, Isn't this being a bit hypocritical? If the coach is smiling shouldn't the official know that means he is joking and take it as such? You except the coach to know the official is only joking correct. So why the double standard? First off, Padgett you crack me up...second, to BBallCoach - yes, the coach gets T'd. Is that hypocritical and a double standard - yep. Tough noogies...see, we refs are the ones with the TOTAL power and TOTAL control of the game, and - basically - we can do whatever we want!!! Mwa-ha-ha-ha-ha (that's my evil Dr. Frankenstein laugh there)
Mark Padgett Originally posted by mick Portland's Professor Paradox No, I go to a clinic with two doctors. That's the Portland's Professor Paradox. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), neither one can keep up with prescribing my meds.
[deleted] It's amazing that you want to be respected and treated fairly but on the same hand you make what you assume is a joke to a coach and if they dont take it like that or give it back to you, you T him? That is a great role model for our society bait the coach into a T. You guy's are so classy. Dam! I don't get why most people disrespect offcials.

Just please don't categorize all officials this way.
Adam BBallCoach, Have you looked up the rule he referenced? It's pretty clear when you read the rule book why this rule needs to be enforced in this case. We don't like to do it, but we are bound by the rules and rule 11.2.4 is very clear (one could easily call it's meaning transparent) on this issue. Please, get a rule book and look this up. As Padgett says, rule 13.3.2 leaves us absolutely no wiggle room on this.

In the immortal words of one of the all-time classy guys, Charles Barkley, "I am not a role model"...my job is to go out on the court and T every coach, every game...I go out of my way to put myself on the table side of the court so I can mouth off to the coaches - especially the assistants - and then when they say anything back - WHACK!! Nothing I like better than to see that look of horror/shock slowly spread over the face of a coach... well, maybe the smell of napalm in the morning, but that's another movie...I especially like T'ing up a coach when they look at me funny - those are the best T's of them all...T'ing - and potentially tossing - coaches is what keeps me in my stripes and polyester pants!!!

Adam If you can find an official's manual, it helps to clear up this picture. It lays explicitly why jokes from coaches constitute technical fouls. I can't remember where exactly, but it's right after the portion about good refs not allowing overtime. Once again, the passage is pretty transparent, much like rule 11.2.4.

The fact is there is casebook on this too. 11.2.4 Situation A (witty remarks about self or own team- no T) and Situation B (comedic comments about officials- T) But the biggest secret we keep from coaches is discussed in casebook 4.45.1 (make up calls) shhhhhhh...
imkcalls BBALLCOACH,,I have had that said to me in a game before as i ran past the coach and did not wack him,, i just came back down the court and made my own little commit, nothing to bad, i feel one response needs another
Brad Originally posted by BBallCoach That is a great role model for our society... Yeah. We should be more like coaches -- scream, yell, and stomp our feet when we don't get our way. What is that -- role models for 3 year olds???
