Great impromptu example of the 'dozens', Mark. Showing your urban roots..

3 things I takeaway from this vid and apply to my own officiating game:
1. when I'm with my ref partner(s) prior to tip off for the pre-game chat with team captains and coaches--one of the refs always says to the group "...this game is an extension of the classroom so conduct yourself with dignity and respect...[sic. blah blah blah]". I never say that because who knows how those student-athletes conduct themselves in the classroom? Maybe they act up or who knows. What this boxing ref says is "obey what I say" which is far more succinct and relevant. 2. refs have to be in optimal physical and mental shape. 3. that ref worked his way up from the lower ranks of reffing matches, this is a vocational arc that most of us refs follow. |
