Interesting link here as this a 1979 Minnesota Boys State Tourney game. What rule differences do you notice(besides jump balls) and mechanics used as compared to today(2 man). Also when did HS rules go from the lane on a free throw hitting the rim to release(the 1st time). Also I'm not sure why there was a 3 point line on the floor. The NBA didn't have it at the time and of course neither did high school or college. Only thing I can think off is that the building bought a floor and hosted some ABA exhibition games when it 1st opened and they never got rid of it. Here is the said link.

The NBA added the 3 point line for the 79-80 season

The NBA didn't exist in Minnesota from when the Lakers left until the Timberwolves started play in 1989.

The NBA 3 started in 1979-80.

Perhaps they played an exhibition game and tested out the 3-pointer then. Or they left the line from when the Muskies played there 11 years earlier.

ABA teams played at the Met Center in Bloomington. The St. Paul Civic Center didn't open until January 1, 1973 and was actually built for the Minnesota Fighting Saints of the old WHA. I'm guessing(and thats all it is because I am too young to remember) that they may have hosted an ABA exhibition game or two in the seasons after it opened to have the floor with the three point line. Also was the ABA 3 point distance the distance the NBA eventually adopted

One thing also. This game(and tournament ) was played in March of 1979 the season before the NBA added the 3 point line. March 8, 1979 to be exact. :)

The posting of this video serves as a reminder of my age/experience. :) My first year of officiating was in the 1980-81 season.

Where to start? There are differences all over the place - bird dogging, fouler raises hand, T administers the FT, L pinches the paint near the end line, collared shirts, coaches sit, long switches, and offenses that work for the open mid-range jump shot.

A style of play that was much easier to officiate with 2 people, certainly.

There is another game on youtube from 1997 in MN that ended 117-113 in OT and is considered the greatest game in MN state tourney history. Losing team took 87 shots in a 36 Minute game(with OT). And it was worked as a two man crew. That had to be fun.

If the ball is going in the hoop any game can be fun!
