The Winter Season is upon us.
This past Spring MTD, Jr., and I had twelve of fifty H.S. baseball or softball assignments rained out; that was fifty assignments out of 54 possible assignment dates. We were lucky because we are assigned games by four different assigners so that we were able to start the Spring with a nearly full schedule (50 out of 54 possible dates). Most umpires we know only umpire for one or two and were lucky to have received as many total assignments as we were able to umpire.
We have had three basketball assignments in the last seven days canceled because of Winter weather. Today was the third of those three cancelations and tomorrow does not look good either because the high is only supposed to be 10F. Between JrHS, HS, and Special Olympics our schedule is almost full. So if any of the games are rescheduled there is a good chance we won't get the reschedule date because we are already officiating on the reschedule date. Oh well. That is life in the North (but not The Great White North). MTD, Sr. |
MTD Sr. - you should move here to Oregon. We have only two seasons - the rainy season and July 17th. :D
If you don't go outside in the rain, you'll never go outside. Actually, Seattle gets more rain than we do here in Portland, but on fewer days. Their rain is heavier but it rains on more days here. |

You mean it rains "heavy" (D2O; I can't make the "2" a subscript) water. :p MTD, Sr. |
I was worried my MSB doubleheader last week would be canceled since a number of schools in the area declared a day off for cold weather  . Thankfully, the school districts involved in my game stayed open.
Last year, on the other hand, I lost three game dates (two of them F/JV doubleheaders) due to our record-breaking snowfall. |
