Ok. St. vs. Mizzou (12/30/14) (3 Point Attempt: Positioning and Rotation) (Video)

ESPN2, 6:21 remaining 1st Half.

Bad miss by the crew on a 3-pt attempt. Leading up to this, there's 4 defenders on the weak side, but the L hesitates to rotate. The C, expecting to become the new T and get a better look , sees that the L hasn't come over yet and gets caught in no-mans land. Then the L finally does rotate and right then there's a quick 3 in front of the old C/new T (who's still in a low C position). He leans to his left to at least get a look at the defender on the shot, but he's got no angle to look at the floor and judge the shooter's feet. He emphatically signals a 2-pt goal in transition (or maybe it was the "note the time" signal to the scorer because he knew he wasn't sure).

Seems like had the L not hesitated, the C would have become the new T more quickly and had a deeper angle to judge both feet and defense.

On video it's clear that the shooter was good by 6-9 inches.

Even D1 officials give us teachable moments from time to time.

So, if there's a hint of suspicion, can this be looked at during the next media timeout under NCAA rules?

Update: So coming out of the under-4 timeout (which actually didn't happen until 1:43!), I noticed one point had been added to the Mizzou score. So apparently the scorer did "note the time" and they took a look at the play and corrected the score.

Lead didn't hesitate to me. He started a rotation and the ball came back to the middle. He started to go back and the ball got passed back to the C side. The Lead then rotates and C moves where he thinks he will have the best look at the play. Sometimes it happens but I see nothing wrong here.
