Don't schools provide water for you guys?? I always make sure that we have a cooler and about 8-10 bottles of water waiting in the Ref's changing room. Have just made it a part of getting things ready for a home game.

Big variety of "hosting" in the high schools that we serve. Some provide bottled water, cookies, and a personal escort that walk you to and from the court and help you with anything you need. Others hand you a key to the laundry room (no shower facility and not even a bottle of water) and let you fend for yourself.

I get a lot of abuse from the rest of the unit for having the best stocked bag in the area. It has most of the things already mentioned with a few additions:
Black felt tip marker (it and a piece of tape can make a very quick patch for pants or socks) Gum (I don't need it but one of my partners does and without it he can't officiate for sh-- so I always have extra) Change (for those cheap schools that won't give you water or soda but have machines in the locker room) Ace bandage Rolaids At least a dozen good comebacks for each coach |

Man, I must travel light compared to you guys
For really close games, I come dressed. For anything futher than about 50 miles, I bring my ref clothes in a bag. I always have the latest rule books (the one with all the dog edged pages), machanics, extra whistles and lanyards, the roster of officials with my schedulers name highlighted, and sometimes a map from the Internet. I bring a towel. But that's about it.
Oh yeah. I always have spare money in my bag in case I lose my wallet. Enough for food and gas.
