Video Request SMU/Michigan

Looking for SMU/Michigan....first half about just under 2:00 left in the first half. Michigan's Irving for a dunk and a foul.

Defender had a hand on the back, I never like that on a dunk or breakaway....

Thanks!

Tim

If I had the clip/post skills of the others, I'd throw this one up.

Anyhow, I went back and watched this, and I don't think the foul was simply for the hand in the back. The entry pass came in from over the top, and the defender in an attempt to recover undercut Irving as he went up to try to dunk the ball. The hand on the back was minimal.

The defender tripped, that is what caused the awkward foul. I could see going with a normal personal foul.

A foul in the act of shooting is not a common foul.

A couple of years ago the NCAA made a big point of calling these type of fouls committed against airborne players near the ring as what is now called a flagrant 1.

The emphasis was on protecting the airborne player who is vulnerable to injury while jumping in an attempt to score.

Therefore, my ruling is FF1.
