Western Kentucky - Louisville

End of first half. Scrum, contact with an official, ejection and T's for both coaches during explanation. What a mess. What will those officials be discussing during halftime?

Montrezl Harrell Ejected For Throwing Punch, Making Contact With Ref

Not fighting

Interesting follow-up - Louisville Cardinals F Montrezl Harrell ejected, will not miss next game - ESPN

The officials couldn't determine if it was a punch so they ejected him with an F2 for throwing an elbow and deferred to the ACC to decide if it was a fight. Apparently if he was ejected for fighting, it's an automatic suspension for the next game. So why can a conference increase an incident ruling (i.e. say it's a fight) but not lessen it if the officials make a mistake and the conference says it isn't a fight?

I like the officials were aware of the consequences on their ruling and decided to defer.

I love everything about this. Harrell getting irrationally angry at nothing, the ref going down like a soccer player, both coaches getting whacked. I did like how they handled it though, those teams hate each other.

I couldn't even see where the ref got hit. I think it was also handled nicely.

Pretty strange play...couldn't see where the official was injured...certainly not to the extent that he doubled over.

Definitely handled well by the crew. The double T's on the coaches served to get them away from the crew so they could straighten everything out and put them in check for the remainder of a chippy game. Well done. A great example of how good game management keeps a game from turning into a train wreck.

I believe the other official actually caused the injury.

Great spot! I wonder if the guy told Pat it was him. :D

I was thinking that the ref tweaked his shoulder the way he was trying to separate the players

That is what I thought, but curiously he is making big, demonstrative movements only a moment later when issuing the double technical fouls to the coaches. Guess he wasn't that hurt.
