The Sixers won the opening tip, and Henry Sims was fouled and getting ready to take a free throw when referee Zach Zarba stopped the game. After a brief conference, it was determined both teams should be going in the opposite directions.

The foul was wiped off, the clock was reset and a second jump ball was held to restart the game.
I like NFHS's rule better: Switch ends and play on.

Anyone ever have this?

Yes. I had this happen to me about 12 years ago at the start of a Championship game in the Ohio Special Olympics. I was the R in a 3-person crew and none of us caught it until about 10 seconds into the game before anything else had happened.

Just had a wrong-way case yesterday in game #2 of my HS season.

4th quarter. I was T in a 2-person game. Team A lost the ball OOB on its offensive end. After a 15-second delay as someone retrieves the ball (lots of room on the end line) everyone sets up for an endline throw-in by Team B but, strangely, they're setting up as though Team B is on its offensive end. I'm thinking "Okay, let's see how this goes." Team B inbounds the ball, B1 lines up and and takes what would have been a 3-pointer had she been shooting at her own basket. Thankfully, she misses. A1 gets the rebound and starts racing towards the other end of the court. At that point I blow my whistle and stop the madness. By that time half the kids realized the issue. As I'm explaining the problem the kid who took the faux three looks at me and says, "We weren't shooting the wrong way!" Three of her teammates look at her like she's nuts and tell her, "Yes you did!"
