Correctable Error ?

Black did not shoot a merited FT:

We played up and down until the next dead ball in which the error was brought to our attention. At this point black has the ball Out of bounds for a throw in. (First dead ball)

So to correct it is it.

Award the merited free throw with the lane full and play on...
or
Award the merited free throw with the lane empty and then play continues from point of interruption with a throw in from black.

The second. You'd use the first if there had not been a change of possession (and since you "played up and down" I assume there had been at least two.)

Did anyone score as they were playing up and down?

As long as his "at the next dead ball" statement is correct, it doesn't matter if anyone scored.

Actually, it does matter, the ball is dead after a score, which he and his partner(s) might not have known.

that is why I asked! If black just took it out instead of shooting merited free throw, first live ball, missed shot, then white came down and scored that is the first dead ball(made basket), then when black gets it to throw in, that would be 2nd live ball. Would be to late now to correct.

And if play had continued past that point, his "at the next dead ball" statement would not have been correct. Always listen to Bob.

I will say that the OP's two statements: "until the next dead ball in which the error was brought to our attention. At this point black has the ball Out of bounds for a throw in." are contradictory. If black has the ball, it's not "the next dead ball" anymore. If the CE was brought to the attention of the officials "in which" the dead ball, then Black didn't have the ball for a throwin yet.

And I will also say that even is anyone had scored, it could still be the "next dead ball", so that comment still is not sufficient. (I had something like this in originally -- don't know why it didn't post)
