Reffing in NY, Hudson Valley

I might be moving there soon. Anyone working there? What's it like? How hard is it for an experienced ref, new to the area, to get involved, a good schedule, etc...

IF you are looking to work HS it is usually the local IAABO board that certifies you to BOCES which does the assigning for each section. There are several boards that cover the Hudson Valley so depending on what county you are in will determine what board you work through. Also if you want to work girls HS you need to be certified by the NYS Girls Basketball Officials Association. NYS Girls uses NCAA women's rules with a few modifications.

To piggy back on to what JFPDI said, go to IAABO.org and you will find information about what IAABO Board you should join.

I live in the mid-Hudson Valley, not too far from Poughkeepsie. There are different referee organizations for different parts of the area, and as has been mentioned, the boys and girls side are quite different. So do let us know where you're headed, and I or others can hook you up with the right group.

Here's the link for girls' basketball

New York State Girl Basketball Officials Association

Find your region and go from there. Some of the links are broken but if you reach out to the main statewide contact you should be okay.
