Jump Ball Survey

Random topic but I'm curious...

1) Do you verbally tell the teams which basket they are going towards or just make sure they're in the proper half of the restraining circle? Does it depend on the age of the players, i.e. middle school vs. varsity?

2) Is your whistle before the toss loud and sharp or just a little "tweet"?

3) Do you toss with one or two hands?

1. No longer point.

2. Loud whistle. It serves to notify the captains ;)

3. One hand...I'm 6' 5"

1. Yes. Point and verbally tell in the direction.

2. Whistle before I get in the circle.

3. Two hands (with a bounce move).

Peace

Rut:

Your post saved me some typing. And MTD, Jr., does the same as his "old man".

I do this after checking the benches, and the position of the jumpers, to confirm that the teams are going in the correct direction (opposite benches for the opening tap).

I forgot the order of the questions in the survey.

I probably do this as much for me as I do to help the teams. Backcourts come so quickly, if you aren't on top of it from the start, things go down hill in a hurry.

Two handed toss.

Loud whistle outside just after I say "Captains ready?" and check for a nod/grin :)

1. Yes. Point and verbally tell in the direction.

2. Whistle before I get in the circle. (Unless the first whistle buys posts game) ;)
3. Two hands.

1. Verbal and point
2. Loud whistle before I get in the circle (actually the first thing I do)
3. One hand

1) Verbally indicate color and point in direction. (Doesn't matter the age)

2) Loud whistle -- before indicating color/direction in #1

3) 2-handed toss

You been following me around or something? ;)

I'll admit, I try to get out of tossing as much as possible. I have a bad habit of being hit in the head, arms, torso, etc. Doesn't matter the age, height or skill of the jumpers. I seem to be a magnet.

This is me. My toss is underhanded, one hand.

verbal verification that players know the directionality (mixups at this early stage are detrimental to a good game due to interruptions etc)
pop my whistle before I step into the jump circle (alerts players that tap is beginning)
one hand toss
i watch closely for "stealing the tap" (prior to ball at apex)

You watch as you toss?

1. Always point and announce color, at all levels.

2. Check the clock, short, loud tweet.

3. Two hand, modified (my own unique way): Right hand's fingertips under the ball, left hand's fingertips to steady the ball, right arm pushes the ball straight up, like a piston. Works every time.

Bainsey:

Good catch. Even after 43 years I tend to forget that especially back in the day when every quarter or half started with a Jump Ball.
