Recommendation for Shoe Polish (Leather & Patent)

Any particular brand to recommend for polishing your leather/patent kicks? If you please post a link for the purchase that'll be great. Thank you~!

Ps, I've tried a bottle of that brand starts with "Ta sth." but the foam on the top didn't hold long... it was great otherwise though.

Polish patent leather shoes? Why? I don't think I could get them any shiner even if I wanted to.

As for the basic leather shoes, I have always just used kiwi paste wax and a rag.

Shape Up. Once a year or so is all that is needed.

That may be, but do you find that your patent leather shoes stop being shiny?

Perhaps try a little warm water and a soft cloth. Maybe some windex? Maybe even some nail polish remover? I've actually used the nail polish remover on some patent leather shoes many years ago to remove scuff marks...and it worked great. They were not referee shoes, however, and they may have been a different material.....so try it in a non-visible spot first (or on an older pair).

This is what I used to use for baseball for leather shoes. Get it regularly from Honigs, though it's kinda hidden on their website. Don't use it now for basketball due to durable shine of patent leather. I do currently use this for my work boots for which "spit shine" is a prerequesite for continued employment. Low effort/high gloss shine.

The 'Patent Leather' Zigs aren't real leather anyway, they are a synthetic patent material.

I too looked for a while to see what products would clean patent leather until I realized my Zigs were not real leather...

BEAREF Wed May 07, 2014 09:08am

I use Armor All wipes on my Zigs...it works great.

This is true for many other modern "patent leather" products as well.

That sounds good, I will try that!

bob jenkins Wed May 07, 2014 11:47am

Be sure to get the wipes for leather, and not the wipes for plastic / vinyl / pleather

Rob1968 Wed May 07, 2014 12:00pm

Now I'm confused . . . if it's not real leather, which Armor-all wipes should I use?

Sorry, I missed the "patent leather" part of the discussion.

Rob1968 Wed May 07, 2014 01:05pm

This last school season, I wore a pair of patent leather shoes. In the 1st game, having administered a throw-in on the sideline, in frontcourt, when the ball was intercepted, the thrower decided to go the other way and stepped right on my foot!

He'll never know haw close he came to getting a flagrant T for scratching my new shoe!;)

One slight error isn't a real big deal. I still say that we always listen to bob.

Well his advice was correct, but for the wrong subject. Does that count?

JRutledge Wed May 07, 2014 07:55pm

I really do not understand why people look for recommendations and do not realize there have been several topics on this subject just recently.

Shoes choice are so personal anyway and you have to be comfortable, not what people tell you they are comfortable with.

Peace

I didn't know shoe polish affected how comfortable the shoe would be? ;)

JRutledge Wed May 07, 2014 09:26pm

It is still personal. Some people know how to put on a military shine with old school polish. ;)

Peace

^^^^^Windex. I wore them for 20 years while in the military and all you need is windex. Once you scuff them though, they are done as you can't fix the scuffs.

I use Pledge on my Patent Leather ReZigs...works perfectly.

Oh, you use Pledge on the inside of your shoes, BMac.
Here I had it wrong all these years.
Bet you haven't had a case of toenail fungus in a while, though.

I used to do that for years. Attended a Military school at one time and had to shine shoes every day.

Peace

I will do a qualitative analysis on the different faux patent leather cleaning techniques and get back to y'all!

AremRed Sat Jun 07, 2014 04:18pm

I used the Windex Method to clean and polish my faux patent leather Zigs last night. They look absolutely beautiful, almost like new.

I have yet to use the Pledge Method or Armor All wipes but I will do those next.

Please move this over the Good Housekeeping Forum, where it belongs. I'm surprised that the moderators let you get away with stuff like this.
