The Off-season

Boy, things are slow. I think jeremy needs to show off some more of his video posting skills.

Welpe Fri Apr 18, 2014 10:47am

It's been the off season for over a year now. :D

jeremy341a Fri Apr 18, 2014 11:36am

Damn...that puts my off-season hobbies to shame. Did you win either heat? Looks like you did the second one. What kind of camera? Helmet mounted GoPro?

deecee Fri Apr 18, 2014 02:45pm

I think I hear an engine tick...Gas mileage must suck :)

BillyMac Fri Apr 18, 2014 04:48pm

Do I Shoot Myself Now, Or Do I Shoot Myself Later ???

I do some flatwater kayaking, do some vegetable, and flower gardening, raise backyard chickens, and take telescopic photos of sunspots. None are real "chick magnets".

Yeah I won both. It was a helmet cam called tachyion. I bought it when I got selected to blog an entire season. You can read it here. This is Bracket Racing - Member Spotlight

Nova runs on methanol. It costs about 3.50 per gallon and can make a quarter mile run on about a gallon. The dragster not so good. It runs 116 octane racing gas that costs a little over 12 dollars per gallon and burns about 3 quarters of a gallon per run.

deecee Fri Apr 18, 2014 07:15pm

1 mi/gallon --> beats the H3 Humvee used to push out :)

Is it typical to keep looking to the side to see how you are doing? Would it not be faster to just look straight forward the whole time to focus on your line and shifting?

BNR -

This is all your fault !!!! We are now going to have to follow Jeremy all summer long and his "off season" passion .....

If only he had posted decent videos from the beginning none of this would have ever occured !!!!!

I should learn a lot from this off-season chronicle...never really followed anyone in drag before.

Hey, it's off-season, I need some entertainment.

Went over to Boo Williams today--MEAC on one side, NBDL on the other side. Good to see some guys I know trying to get into the DL. bbtaylor60 and eroe, who used to frequent this board, were observers for the DL camp.

JB Caldwell, who used work in the SEC, gave up supervising his small school conferences in Florida and is now working for the NBA officiating department.

We have our limits, even in the off season.

I'm sure most of us dont want to hear about your little corner of Conn., your CYO
5th grade games nor your belt dilemmas..... Do.you really think we want to hear about your off season as well ????;);););)

How can you resist not asking me to post some photos of Betty, and Veronica, by backyard chickens? I'm sure that those photos would be just as exciting as drag racing videos.

(jeremy341a: Keep posting your cool videos. I hope that moderators continue give you a break throughout the offseason.)

Yeah that is typical. What we do is called bracket racing. You pick your time you think you can run and are giving a head start accordingly. Example if I pick 7 sec and you pick 8 sec I would give you a 1 sec head start. However to keep people from getting an unfair head start if you go quicker than your predicted time then you automatically lose. Therefore you will not only look at your opponent but lift off the gas in order to slowdown but still beat them by a small margin in order to reduce your chances of "breaking out" or going to quick and losing.

As far as shifting my cars have electric shifters that shift at pre set rpms

Are there any applicable parallels you can draw between drag racing and officiating?

jeremy341a Sun Apr 20, 2014 08:43am

I would say ability to focus on the job at hand. Don't let any outside distractions draw your attention away from what you need to do.
