Spring is here! Tra la la! Tra la la!
The OhioHSAA baseball and softball season started this past Saturday but neither Junior and I were scheduled to umpire.
But we were scheduled to umpire a girls' varsity softball this afternoon but it was canceled because of poor field conditions at 01:30pm. I hope this is not a trend because except for Sundays, starting today, we have either a H.S. baseball or softball game including at least a dozen DHs between today and May 13th, except for April 18th when neither of us have a game and May 02nd when he has a game and I do not. I think that the more than 80 inches of snow that NW Ohio received this Winter is going to cause a lot of games to be canceled because of wet field conditions. NE Ohio had it even worse this Winter and even had 5 inches more snow on Friday night. After the cancelation call came I looked back at our basketball season and I were pretty lucky: We had 48 games together and 11 were snowed out. Junior 15 games with other partners and 3 were snowed out. I had 7 games with other partners and 1 was snowed out. So all in all it was not a bad Winter. MTD, Sr. |
I'm still waiting for Spring to start.

BNR have you ever attended the MEAC camp that will occur on Easter weekend this year?

This year the applicant camp is Easter weekend and will be working the Hoop Groop tournament. The staff camp is in May (16th-18th) and will be working the Nike Elite tour stop. Hoop Groop games are good, but are nothing compared to the Nike Elite level of competition. And Hoop Groop sometimes tries to run things off the cuff, so sometimes last minute schedule adjustments are necessitated. The MEAC April camp will be sharing the venue with a D-League camp. I'll be out at one of the local high schools working off-site with the local AAU group. If you are coming to town let me know, my 9-to-5 is literally 5 minutes from the Boo Williams Sportsplex. I'll be stopping in on Friday night to peek my head in on things. |
I wont be there, a friend of mine is considering going. Camping on Easter weekend would require too much effort to smooth over with the wife. I will my friend know about the talent level. Thanks for the info.

In my neck of the woods, March is statistically our snowiest month.

All this talk about spring, and I look out my window to see 6 feet of snow still on the ground, and they are talking maybe a another foot is coming this Thursday and Friday.
Guess it'll be a while before I can start umping baseball and softball games. |
