No-Call or Foul...2 plays (video)
Two plays. The first play I was more interested in the action on the initial blocked shot but feel free to comment on both parts of that one :)

First play I have a foul on the defender, jumping which appears not to be vertical.
The second play, I got nothing. Two players going at the ball and it looks like the smaller player bounced off the bigger player. I got nothing either way. Peace |
Play 1: Foul. Blocking foul on black 21.
Play 2: No call. |
First play is an obvious foul. Second play I have nothing.
|
My initial thought on play #1 had as much to do with the time when it took place as the contact. Sometimes I think when we're early in a game, especially a postseason game, we get so stuck on not making a "bad" call we forget the good ones.

#1. Blocking foul. Defense is moving forward into the path of airborn shooter.
#2. Hard to tell on the 2nd one from the angle if the contact is just leaping bodies competing or if the final rebound the rebounder extends that left arm to create space agaainst the smaller d. From the fact that I'm unsure and from this angle I've got nothing. |
#1. Block....no reason to not call that one.
#2. Nothing. |
BTW, play #2 I was looking at the angle Black #24 took to go after the ball. It looked more like he was jumping into White #35 as opposed to making an attempt at the rebound.
|
Play 1 foul.
Play 2 nothing anywhere. |

Is play 2 the first rebound (on the right of the basket, as we are looking at it), or the second rebound (on the left)?

Play 1 isn't as obvious as everyone is letting on, #21 goes pretty vertical. In the end I probably go with a foul, but it was close. The agressive arm swing would not help #21's case.
Play 2 was a no call for me on first watching, but on second watching the second black rebounder (#24) definitely comes over into the white rebounder and should be called for a foul. In transition though, that is understandably missed. The second rebound (the one on the left) is a good no call. On a related note: where are the officials on this play? I see a C, and assume there must be an L off screen to the right? I never see a T. |

At roughly the 4:10 mark on the game clock the T was a little above the top of the 3-point arc tableside in the backcourt dealing with the press. If he made it into the frontcourt he didn't make it to the 28-foot line before the ball changed possession. |
1st Play: Foul
2nd Play: Foul on 24 Black and don't know why the L wouldn't catch that |
