End of Game Court Storm Situation
I received this from a fellow official:
"last night in OT team A scores as time runs out and leads by 2 points. Team A and fans rush the court. Clock shows zero. Officials decided team B called a time out and put 1.5 sec on the clock. Then assessed team A a technical foul for players on the court. I couldn't find this situation in the case book. My thought is play should resume with no technical awarded. What are your thoughts." I concur that you use common sense and have people leave the floor and continue on with 1.5 seconds w/o a T. The clock showed zero and this game was to put the winner into the State Tournament. Does anyone have a case play or past interp on this? Our state association doesn't have a "no court storming" policy. Thanks! |
I'm sure this is a HTBT situation but from the description it sounds as though no T should have been given. It's obvious Team A thought the game was over since there was no time on the clock (can I assume the horn sounded as well?).
Also, since it was determined Team B called a timeout before the end of the OT, Team A's team members were actually allowed to be on the court in their time-out area. http://i57.tinypic.com/2u7a7w8.jpg |
