Congrats to Tomegun!

If the assignments that I've seen remain unchanged, one of our forum members, Tomegun, will be working the Nevada Division 1 (large school) boys State Final this Friday night.
More impressive, this isn't his first time doing so!
Congrats man!!!

Camron Rust Wed Feb 26, 2014 03:48am

Congrats Tom!

Can't believe your state is already at the Finals. We start the first round this weekend with the finals being the 2nd Saturday in March.

grunewar Wed Feb 26, 2014 04:58am

HOORAH! Congrats. Quite an accomplishment, Kudos to you sir!

Similar to Camron, we're still early and in Regionals.

Toren Wed Feb 26, 2014 09:24am

Congrats. Enjoy the moment, you never know if you'll ever be there again.

bob jenkins Wed Feb 26, 2014 09:26am

I think someone else on this list is working the state finals in WI.

Congrats to all who are working post season, or working the "next level" for the first time.

JRutledge Wed Feb 26, 2014 09:27am

Congrats to my friend. Wish you the absolute best. Have a blast.

We have not even started our playoffs for the big schools (3A-4A). That starts next week. Then in 3 weeks, they will have the State Finals at that level. The smaller schools (1A-2A) Finals will be the week before. Smaller school boy's started this week.

Peace

justacoach Wed Feb 26, 2014 09:36am

Rich Wed Feb 26, 2014 10:55am

Congrats, Tom. DFIU!

We worked our first round boys game last night. Still a long road ahead -- first round girls isn't until March 4. Boys final is March 15 and girls final is March 22.

stripes Wed Feb 26, 2014 10:56am

Congratulations. The first one is always special. Be sure to enjoy the moment.

I don't think it's Tom's first rodeo, but that doesn't make it any less of an accomplishment.

bainsey Wed Feb 26, 2014 11:32am

WTG, Tom.

Out of curiosity, what's the enrollment range of a D-1 school in Nevada?

rockyroad Wed Feb 26, 2014 11:36am

Congrats, Tom!

Zoochy Wed Feb 26, 2014 01:27pm

you da man!

BillyMac Wed Feb 26, 2014 05:06pm

SCalScoreKeeper Wed Feb 26, 2014 05:20pm

way to go Tomegun :) is there streaming footage of this game available?

Nevadaref Wed Feb 26, 2014 05:20pm

To those who asked: the favorites to be in this boys final are Canyon Springs of north Las Vegas and Bishop Gorman.
CS is public and has an enrollment of just over 2600 although under the current NV system any school over 1200 is put in D1. There are currently four divisions. There has been talk of creating a fifth for the biggest schools, perhaps over 1800 or 2000 but that hasn't happened yet.
Gorman is private and has won the State championship for the past few years. Maxpreps ranks them 20th in the country.

My apologies...I read the initial post too quickly. IMO, that only enhances the honor.

My sentiments exactly. Congratulations, and have fun. :)

tomegun Wed Feb 26, 2014 10:10pm

Thanks everyone! This isn't my first time, but I NEVER take something like this for granted.

I am not sure about streaming for the game; Nevada (the state) seems to be kind of behind for that. Maybe Nevada (the forum member) knows more about it.

I didn't think there were enough schools in Nevada to have 5 divisions. I lived in Vegas from '93-98, I wouldn't be surprised if somebody were to say the number of high schools in the Vegas Valley has doubled since that time.

BTW, that was well before my officiating days, I was one of the Wreck players tomegun was officiating back then.

I will see what I can find out. Btw I will be around for tomorrow's semis.
See you then!
(Note: He also has a State semi on the girls side. NV uses a Final Four format. The last four teams in each Division make up the teams at the State tournament. Everything prior to that is classified as Regionals.)

Damn. I didn't turn in my brackets.

AremRed Thu Feb 27, 2014 09:57pm

Any idea which teams he is officiating?

Nevadaref Fri Feb 28, 2014 02:58am

Today he had the 2nd girls semi which was Reno 55, Centennial 52.
The first semi was Liberty 43, Manogue 33.

He has the winners of these boys semis on Friday night:
Canyon Springs 66, Spanish Springs 51 (the losing team actually led by 10 at halftime)
Bishop Gorman 68, Reno 27 (40-pt running clock mercy rule)

For those who didn't see the video, the above comment is funny because all three officials who worked the contest are bald.

Man that Reno is a big team.

Good stuff.

I walked into a state quarterfinal game a few years ago to see three "very veteran" officials on the court. Of course, I had to yank some chains, so I told them that the assigner must have selected the three oldest officials. One immediately replied that the assigner actually selected the three baldest officials. His statement, although facetious, was probably more accurate than mine.

SCalScoreKeeper Fri Feb 28, 2014 12:13pm

Those games all had really good streaming quality. Our section finals are next Saturday and Sunday at 3 different sites.

Indianaref Fri Feb 28, 2014 12:30pm

Congrats Tom!

#olderthanilook Fri Feb 28, 2014 12:36pm

Fantastic! Congratulations, gun!

tomegun Fri Feb 28, 2014 05:53pm

I was going to supply the link but Nevada beat me to it.

Yeah, nobody had to do their hair last night. I did however look substantially different than the other two. :D
