Last second shot (Video link)

Last second shot counted

What do you guys think of this video.

Start watching the video at 2:19 to see the entire play in question.

If anyone can clip this up that would be appreciated too.

Peace

Don't know if they show a replay/slo motion....but after watching the initial play - NO GOOD! (I stopped watching at 2:30).

Yep, the DID show a replay...confirms what I thought - NO GOOD.

In general, I think officials are MUCH MORE ACCURATE on the first/initial shot and are VERY POOR on judging a 2nd,3rd, or 4th shot....

At speed I thought this was no good.Ball was barely in her hand when the light went off.

My gut reaction at full speed was no good and on replay that was confirmed. To me, it is another reason I like the light on the backboard.

Lights on the backboard help big time in a play like this. Only one high school in my area has them, I wish more would get them.

Clip added. I left out the freeze from the broadcast. What fun would that have been? :p

JetMet made a joke about how informative freeze frames or pictures are. I joked that you are the only one who really cares.

I think pictures can be useful for certain things. The freeze frame shown in the original video is one of them. It shows the backboard light on while the ball is still in the shooter's hand. Thus, incorrect call.

Is there a married one?

JRut, I know you work in the league the game I am going to reference took place in. When you get a chance, checkout the box score from the Triton vs. Harper game last night. From what I hear, there was some bad blood between those two teams and the crew had their hands full all night.

Camron Rust Fri Feb 21, 2014 04:06am

What I want to know is who the referee in the backcourt is covering with 8 players (4 from each team) completely or partially in the lane and one more (the remaining defender) near the lane.

I believe he was covering the exit. If anything he was consistent. In every highlight it looks as though he's a bit too far behind the play.

Why was the trail hanging out in the backcourt? I don't have a lot of 3-man experience but I would think that it would be pretty hard to come running in from behind the back court line to wave that shot off. But he would have had a good view if he had been closer to the play.

It's not the Trail's call. The C is opposite table so it's his.

Trail still should have been in the FC though.
