Michael Stephens T's up Coach Cal

He told the Coach to not talk to the officials during a live ball. Coach Cal then was asking Antonio Petty a ? about a call and Stephens came across from half court and gave Coach Cal a T. Is this showing up your partner?

Most these college officials are pretty judicious when calling technical’s. If anyone gets the back story I am sure it will explain why he came so far in to whack him.

Calipari said he didn't know what he said to draw a technical foul, but suggested Wilbekin's free throws "could have" swung the game.

"I don't know what he heard me say with my back to him, so you have to ask him," Calipari said.
Of course deflection of one's actions is the best plan when the official does not speak to the press to explain his reason.

Does anyone have video or could post of what happened (JetMetFan or APG)?

I don't think I have ever heard a D1 accept responsibility when they get a T.

I don't know that it was even on camera. It was completely out of the blue and not at a time where he would have been even suspect for drawing a T. I was puzzled about why it was called.

I T'd up a HC the other night. He wasn't speaking to me, and the crowd most likely didn't hear what he said.

Some of you may be able to browse to the play (8:14 second half) here: ESPN3 -- Florida vs. Kentucky

How do you know?

Lots of yapping from Calipari at the L during that set of FTs. But it was the C that whacked him, no?

Michael Stephens was the new Lead (Trail during the FT's).

At least he was tableside, then.

Hey, it sure did sound like a never-ending dialogue during that set of free throws. Perhaps he had been told to knock it off before and didn't. Shrug.

Complete guess based on the video, but it kinda looked like Calipari was upset that Stephens didn't have the foul call on the last play. He immediately pointed to him after the foul call & was obviously riding him during the free throw & ensuing throw in. Seemed like he got plenty of leeway before the T.

One possibility is that Cal was complaining to Stephens about something and was told "that's enough", so Cal goes down to the end line and starts up on the same subject with Petty.

Just went back and watched the previous couple plays before the T.

8:56: Petty-lead; Stephens-trail; Sermons-center--UK player gets bumped on strong side baseline shot and Sermons comes into get it. Cal says something to Petty.

8:37: Stephens-lead; Sermons-trail; Petty-center--UF player gets foul in paint for an And-1, Petty and Stephens have a double whistle.

8:14: Sermons-lead; Stephens-trail; Petty-center--UK player drives from trail into middle of the paint where he gets bumped on his shot. Sermon gets called from lead, Cal says something to Stephens immediately while pointing at Stephens and Petty. Then during 2nd free throws heads down to end line where he starts yapping at Petty.

I'm going to speculate that Cal was complaining and/or asking why Stephens & Petty held their whistles on UK's 2 offensive possessions, but had whistles on Florida's possession.

(edit: I see Drizzle noticed the same thing)
