MD at Duke review with 18.8 left
Interesting review of shot clock situation.
|
Wow, the officials aren't getting the game clock correct! This is a mess.
Do you give Duke their final TO back? |
Concur, and MD had to use their last TO right after they found out they were getting the ball.....and yes, Duke got their TO back.
|
I know that the announcers said that Duke had its time-out restored.
I'm wondering what is the rule basis for that? |

The A.Rs I can find that are remotely close to this situation - as far as rescinding the timeout - are Men's 128/Women's 131. Player A1 is airborne and momentum is carrying him/her out of bounds. A1, while airborne and in control of the ball, requests a timeout. The official: (1) Inadvertently blows the whistle; or (2) Blows the whistle and immediately grants a timeout. RULING: In both (1) and (2), the officials shall not recognize this request. The official’s whistle is an inadvertent whistle that caused the ball to become dead. Play will be resumed at the point of interruption by awarding the ball to Team A, the team in control, at a designated spot nearest to where the ball was located. Before placing the ball at Team A’s disposal for a throw-in, the official is permitted to inquire as to whether Team A still wants a timeout. (Rule 4-20, 4-27.1.a, 5-15.1.c and 7-4.16(Men)/7-4.15(Women)) In this case, the POI would be Team B - Maryland - gaining control due to the violation. During the review they also must have determined the possession began with 0:55.9 remaining, which explains the reset of the game clock to 0:20.9. BTW, the "review" part of all this has been left out. I tried to put in what I thought was relevant. <iframe width="853" height="480" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/AJB8VJIDmyI?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
