Intentional Foul?
 
Having a beer with the fellow refs after game...discussed play:

A1 has throw in from under his basket...B1 bear hugs A2 before the throw in is completed. Intentional Foul called.

Is the "automatic" intentional foul?

What do you mean "the 'automatic' intentional foul'"? I've never heard of that.

The NFHS does not have "automatic" fouls like he NCAA has in past years....as described, the play absolutely is an intentional foul.

The NFHS had a POE a couple of seasons ago describing actions which should be called intentional fouls. The bear hug was one of them. The situation doesn't matter. Regardless of time, score, or the ball being inbounds after a throw-in or still in the throwers hands, this should be rules an intentional personal foul under NFHS rules.
