Does the dribble end?
A1 is dribbling the ball: (a) let's the ball come to rest on the floor or (b) pins the ball to the floor with his hand. Then, while the ball is resting on the floor, strikes the ball with the palm of his hand causing it to begin bouncing again and continues dribbling the ball.
Legal? Rules support please. |
4-15-4
The dribble ends when: a. The dribbler catches or causes the ball to come to rest in one or both hands. b. The dribbler palms/carries the ball by allowing it to come to rest in one or both hands. c. The dribbler simultaneously touches the ball with both hands. d. The ball touches or is touched by an opponent and causes the dribbler to lose control. e. The ball becomes dead. |

In the OP's b assuming a normal dribble to be able to pin the ball to the floor the ball would have to come to rest in his/her hand. Subsequent dribbling would be an illegal dribble without intervention. |

4-15-1 . . . A dribble is ball movement . . .
4-15-5 . . . An interrupted dribble occurs when the ball is loose . . . In the OP, the dribble has ended, when the dribbling movevement is ended, and since it can't be an interrupted dribble, because the ball is not loose, I would probably call the subsequent action a second dribble = violation. |

Is pinning the ball to the court considered 'Control'?

Some very good people will say yes and some very good people will say no. I personally think it depends on the exact situation, "intent" and the time the ball is pinned. |
