Wonder who among our regulars are in the dark? Dan_ref, Jurassic Referee, others?

Mark Dexter Thu Aug 14, 2003 10:45pm

We lost power briefly in Eastern CT, but no problems since.

I'd like to just quickly point out that New York (home of the Mets and Yankees) lost power, while Boston (home of the Red Sox) did not.

I think it's pretty clear which team is God's choice for the AL pennant this year. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/god.gif

I was wondering about Chuck, but I'm not sure he's home this weekend.

Now that's redundant, Juules!

Lotto Fri Aug 15, 2003 07:23am

I don't know if I count as a regular, but...

Here in Poughkeepsie, NY, power was restored at about 2:30 am (as best as I can judge by all the flashing clocks that I had to reset when I woke up). Surprisingly, the NY Times was at my front door, though the Poughkeepsie Journal wasn't. The Times web site reports that much of Manhattan is still without power.

Yeah, you're a regular. it's just that I don't know who lives in the area.

Juules, unless Chuck got out before 4pm on Thrusday, he's still there. I would guess Mr. Dexter is on summer break. And NVRef is right, that is redundant. :)

The Yankees are so good they don't need light. If you think the Bosux are God's team, check with us in October.

Looks like mick is in the dark, too. His last post was at 2pm yesterday.

If Juulie sounds redudant, you can bet that she was deliberately employing some subtle literary device that the average reader would not understand. ;)

Not sure how much of a standard deviation you define as a regular, but both JRs were hit by the blackout.

For me: off at 04:15pm, on at: 03:30am, about 11 hours, 34 minutes.

Jurassic Referee Sat Aug 16, 2003 05:56am

I got hit, too, but mine never came back on until after 9:00am the next morning.I read somewhere that NY and Michigan were the worst hit,so Mick might have had problems in the U.P. I also read somewhere that they now think that the problems originated in the Ohio grid. Larksy, you didn't happen to plug in all of your marital aids at the same time, did ya? Bad Larksy! Bad,bad Larksy!! :D

[/B][/QUOTE]Another theory was that Judge Crater moved to the U.P., and to this day,is occasionally sighted refereeing basketball games, umpiring baseball games,or catching every damn fish in sight. That might just be a local legend U.P. there, though. Something like Bigfoot or the Yeti. :D

Dan_ref Sat Aug 16, 2003 02:44pm

I spent the week on the beautiful Cape of Cod. We did not lose power there, but my family did contribute to the deaths of many lobsters and countless oysters. The power outage gave us something to talk about on the ride home.

That eliminates my theory as to where the electrical problem started.

Why aren't Cod eaten at Cape Cod?

The fresh cod's good too, my son had it for dinner one night.

BTW, an absolutely awesome thunderstorm passed by late Wedensday afternoon...about an hour after the kid & I finished our kayak journey. When we got home the lawn needed cutting...proof that grass does not need electricity to grow.

Sad part is the hotter the weather the more the stuff grows...

You should try mowing a swamp! :(

Kind of funny, Dan, since I spent Saturday and Sunday morning in NYC. Watched the Mets club the Rockies on Saturday night. Slept in a hotel room with no AC. Visited Ground Zero on Sunday. Went to the Empire State Building, too, but the elevators still aren't working. Darn.

Don't tell me you decided not to go to the observation deck just because there were no elevators! I was able to make it to the top of the Pilgrim Monument by foot fergawdsake!

BTW, isn't this your second trip in to see the JV team this year?

Nah, this was the planned date all along. Was at PNC to see the Pirates on Friday night. Great ballpark. Next year, it's the new Phillie's stadium and then onto the Bronx.
