I think I may have made a violation as an official.

I violated the 1st rule of officiating four times. The 4 v 5 freshmen tournament game I called last night was a quadruple overtime.

grunewar Wed Jan 29, 2014 10:45am

That's NOT the first rule!

Welpe Wed Jan 29, 2014 10:47am

I got a sick feeling in my stomach reading how often you violated the first rule. Thankfully that was not the first rule you violated but Padgett will be disappointed none the less.

Mark Padgett Wed Jan 29, 2014 10:54am

Even though he violated the second rule four times, that still wasn't as bad as violating the first rule even once.

jeremy341a Wed Jan 29, 2014 10:57am

You guys caught my mistake. My fingers move quicker than my brain works. Unfortunately my fingers are slow.

HokiePaul Wed Jan 29, 2014 11:16am

So what's the first rule?

Right when Padgett was beginning to think he lost his "special purpose." ;)

What difference does that make? (Yes, I know Padgett's first rule)

jeremy341a Wed Jan 29, 2014 03:24pm

This is starting to sound like the rules of Fight Club.

rockyroad Wed Jan 29, 2014 03:44pm

Doesn't the first rule say something about puking on the Coachs' shoes???

As a freshmen in H.S. I played in a 4OT game. Obviously, this was in the "Ancient Days" when "real" basketball was played: No AP or 3pt FG.

We were playing our league rivals at home and had a 7 point lead with 13 seconds left to play in the 4th QT. Yes you read that correctly: a 7 point lead with 13 seconds left to play in the 4th QT.

We went on to win the game, win the league regular season championship, and the league's post-season tournament championship (beating the aforementioned opponent in the championship game; we played them three times and beat them all three times).

You think that's bad? Two weeks ago I did an overtime JV boys game and a double OT varsity girls game on the same night.Normally we tip games off at 3,430,600,and 730-with the 3 overtime periods we didn't tip the varsity boys game off till 8pm.

Just think of all the extra time it took to climb the ladder after every score and get the ball out of the peach basket!

Where I'm at in the varsity games we work our first rule is if your the lead and call 3 seconds your buying the beer all night!! One guy liikes to say if you can't get an offensive player out of the paint then you don't belong working varsity games. :)

Thanks. Based on the replies I was thinking rule number one was use a Fox 40 whistle, but the actual rule is much better!
