I'm far more passionate about officiating than some people I know and less so than others. There's always going to be a top 10% and a bottom 10% no matter how much we try to pretend otherwise.

Some of our brethren simply care more about this avocation than others.

I went to a camp last summer where this thought was made at the first meeting:

It's probably obvious who is in the top 10% of the attendees at the beginning. The goal for those people is to improve an aspect or two while remaining in the top 10%.

It's pretty obvious who's in the bottom 20-30%. It's their goal to improve enough to get in the middle 60-70%.

Those in the middle? Work to get into the top 10%, but make sure they don't fall into the bottom 20%.

I liked the thinking. I also wondered how many people thought they were in the top 10% during that meeting.

Probably closer to 100%
