Charting Fouls

Last night I went along with a 3-man group I have just meet to charted fouls, and pencil in general observations. I was wondering if anyone has a pre-made form or template for how they do it. Generally, I will use a notebook with each official having his/her own column. I will write down who called the foul, time, position, and whether it was in their primary or secondary. I also added in any goof plays, rotation, or switching anomalies.

Thoughts?

How would you chart this?

Using said chart, how would you chart this if it occurred Q1 7:45, Foul #1 on V?

Also...

...do you chart violations or just fouls?

I would chart that as a missed call by the trail.

Are you saying you don't think that was a block?

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying.

Agree...not a block. Very poor angle by the trail to even try to make such a call. It was a secondary defender and the Trail was straightlined. The C had the best view of that play.

so again,

how does one chart that play on the sheet provided?

What am I missing here? I have the defender moving forward at the time of contact. That's a block, no?

The defender is not moving forward at time of contact.

What johnny_d said...while he had just moved forward, he stopped just before the contact.

Same here. That one "looked bad" because A1 ended up on his backside. B1 established LGP prior to the contact and didn't move into A1.

Secondary defender takes the contact. I agree that is not a block. To me, that is C's call to make as he has an open look to the entire play and it is a secondary defender.
