What's the deal with players wearing long sleeve undershirts? I've seen it in a few games on TV this season.

zm1283-man even as a volleyball ref I know this rule cause its exactly the same.I would hope that your assignment coordinator pulled some assignments from those guys for passing on an obvious safety issue? My question for these guys would be what constitutes properly and legally equipped? I know I would hear about it from my superiors if I ever passed on earrings on a player.

Last night must have been special, all across the country . . .
W/JV: 2 players warming up with headphones, 2 others with shirts out, 1 with ear studs.
And you guessed it: You're the first ref that's said anything about it!" - as another teammate rolled her eyes in sarcasm . . .

The worst part was the attitude of my partner, who had refused to talk to the girls, at his end of the floor. But, he quickly found out that I wasn't going to let it pass. I don't know whether he was just timid or just didn't think it was no big deal (?!?)

Nothing illegal about it.

FED: It's allowed

NCAAW: It's allowed, as long as it's a compression shirt

NCAAM: Not (supposed to be) allowed

NCAAM 1-23
Art. 1. An undershirt is considered to be part of the game jersey and must be a color similar to that of the game jersey as defined by the neutral zone. In addition, the sleeves and neckline of undershirts shall be unaltered (e.g., no cut-off sleeves or cut necklines). Both sleeves shall be of the same length and not extend beyond the elbows. No logos, decorations, trim, commemorative patches, lettering or numbering may be used on an undershirt. The same color must be worn by teammates.

They probably are telling the truth. Just look at them and ask "And you point would be?"

Normally that confuses them so much they just shrug and rectify the situation.

I could have been clearer that I was talking about NCAAM ... :)

Glad that this D1 crew did this as it can only help make it easier on the rest of us. Stupid announcer criticized it as not something to worry about in the rules.

Did the girls in attendance voice their approval? lol

On the Men's side, if they have a signed letter from Art Hyland, it's legal.

Had it in back-to-back D3 games last season.

A good friend of mine is an assistant coach at U of R. They went thru 5 or 6 games with it not even being mentioned, finally it was caught (I think at ODU). They then went and got a note deeming it "medically necesesary."

Yes...by rule he should have been.

The "player" was technically bench
personnel...it was right before the jump ball to start the game...I was 99.9% sure he was bench personnel...but, not 100%.

I have since checked the book and also put a like scenario on this forum...so I own this rule now.:o

Note:
The Coach probably wouldn't have been ejected...because after the indirect and the direct...I would have made it clear he would be gone if his AC didn't sit down.

It's funny...we just spent more time than most of us thought we needed on this t-shirt issue in our last meeting...

but, there it was...video last night on the local news/sports channel...

a player with a dark t-shirt under a gray jersey.

I will kid with these officials about it...just like a couple did with me on the "bench personnel" issue.

(There is a little truth in all kidding)
