Halftime shutout

JV-G tonight, 18-0 at halftime. Home team went 0-for-7 from the line in the first half. I even had a shooting foul on Team V with 2 seconds left in the second quarter. Only once before have I worked a halftime shutout.

The final was 28-4. Draw your own conclusions.

I think that's a very unfair blanket statement. I've had some very good girls' games, even in middle school. I also had a JV-boys game last week (64-19 final) with kids that could barely dribble the ball.

You get both ends of the bell-shaped curve. Last night was the low end. It happens.

Got you beat, I had a shutout going into the 3rd quarter in JV-G a couple of weeks ago. When we make a long trip here we work both the JV and the V game, so I always make an effort to focus on something specific I need to work on in the JV game to try and improve that so I get something out of it (other than the extra paycheck)

Yep, been there, years ago, 52-0 after three. It took a T (second plane violation) to get the underdog on the board in the fourth, and the coach actually thanked me for the T. ("Anything you can do for these guys!")

Well then you do them and do not complain when others choose to not work them. Yes there are bad boy's games all the time, but I cannot think of many times where one of the teams could not score a single point in either half. I have seen that multiple times in girls games. And part of it is because girl's do not play the sport as young as boys and finding someone that can dribble is a struggle. And part of that is because people automatically ingrain boys to play sports and girls pick it up much later as a general rule.

Peace

Is a shutout really that big of a deal? Is 52-0 any worse than 100-29? I saw that one night. BV

A little confused as to how "a shutout going into the third quarter" beats "a shutout at halftime". Seems identical to me.

Fortunately I was just watching it but a couple of years ago one of the better girls varsity teams in this area won a game 75-3. This team normally always is in an agressive full-court press but after the first quarter the second string went in and it was only token (early in the season...subs needed to do it in a real game, sucks but I understand). Losing team literally could not get pass mid-court. Second half the winning team played a soft zone and did not run. The other team simply could not make a basket...except for a last second desperation three (go figure).

I don't think he was complaining that you don't work the games. I think he was complaining that you chose to denigrate all girls' basketball games as "sucking."

I had a girls varsity game last nite that ended up 44-6. It could have been 94-6 if the winning team decided to keep pressing and play the passing lanes in the second half. Sometimes you get games like this.

Good catch. I misread as "end of three."

CTB, is that what you meant?

Well when those games stop sucking, I will say those games do not suck. ;)

Why draw conclusions? What does that do? We all know the skill level of the teams of the games we accept.
Crews I've worked with had two of these this year so far and another real close. We still gave the teams full value and were able to work on things, given one of the crew members was still honing the basics.

Eh, it's his opinion. I'd rather see him say that than pretend otherwise.

I've always wonder why girls/women in general were not better FG% shooter or more importantly better ft% shooters... Their ball is smaller therefore should have more room for error going into the same diameter hoop.

Well, for starters. you're wondering about a something that's not true:

"But there is one aspect of basketball where women seem to have an edge over men. Free-throw shooting. That's right, women are slightly better than men when it comes to shooting from 15 feet from the basket.

Sharp shooters: As the men's game focuses on dunking, women are shooting free throws better | Deseret News
